Employee Spotlight: WDCE Special Programs Employees Support Vulnerable Learners
Submitted by Nancy Newton, WDCE Special Programs Director
It is impossible for me to single out one member of my team for the employee spotlight during the seasons of COVID-19, so I present to you the WDCE Special Programs Employees Spotlight!
Franklin Moore and Andrew Delcid worked to ensure that access to education for Montgomery College learners housed within the Montgomery County Correctional Facility did not falter during COVID-19. As a team, we first reverted to old fashioned correspondence learning as there is no access to technology for inmates at the maximum-security jail. Then—working alongside corrections staff—we moved to a more effective method of educational packets. The team ensured that some of MC’s most vulnerable learners were not forgotten, even when remote learning was not an option.
David Reed seamlessly switched to remote operations so he could continue to provide services for MC clients of the Montgomery County Problem Solving Court, including clients battling addiction. He holds Zoom classes for GED® instruction and spends countless hours on Zoom or on the phone attending to the educational and career needs of MC’s clients.
Maysoon Hussein-Fawzi has not missed a beat when it comes to the needs of community members who want to attend MC and get help becoming a U.S. citizen. She answers each email and phone call in a timely manner, providing exemplary customer service to our learners to ensure they have everything they need to attend classes and become citizens of the United States.
All of the above employees have worked diligently to ensure services for some of MC’s most vulnerable learners continue with as little disruption as possible. They have shown incredible flexibility, patience, ingenuity, and commitment to our learners.
Thank you to each of you. You rock!
