New Supervisor Orientation Program Returns This Fall

First Session Starts October 13

The Office of Human Resources and Strategic Talent Management (HRSTM) is pleased to announce the return of the New Supervisor Orientation Program (NSOP).
This program is offered three times per year in March, June, and October. The program was temporarily suspended in March and June 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic and moving from normal college to remote work operations. This time gave us an opportunity to redesign the program into a virtual format.
The New Supervisor Orientation Program is for supervisors new to the College or recently promoted to a supervisory role at MC. The orientation program provides information a supervisor needs to manage and lead a team at Montgomery College. The program is delivered in four (4) morning sessions with each session about three to four hours. Attendance and participation is required for each morning session because the program content and topic build upon each other.
The schedule for the October 2020 session is 9 a.m.–1 p.m. for the following four mornings: Tuesday through Thursday, October 13–15, and Tuesday, October 20. The following topics will be covered:
  • Impact of laws on supervision
  • Responsibilities required of a supervisor
  • Dialogue with employees about performance
  • Developing yourself and your team
  • Handling conflict, and much more...
Visit MC Learns to register for each day of the program. Please direct questions about this program to Elaine Doong.

What You Need to Know about Staffing Needs

The College is faced with some potential financial uncertainties which require all of us to practice responsible stewardship of fiscal and talent resources across the College. Please see the notes below about staffing needs, reporting administrative leave, and the Talent Share program:
  • Administrative leave should be reported on timesheets by every full-time and part-time staff not working their regularly scheduled hours.
  • Employees reporting administrative leave are required to submit a profile into the Talent Share program.
  • Casual temporary and student worker (does not apply to federal work study) extension requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Justification must be included with requests and approval of the unit administrator. Extension requests should be submitted as indicated below. If the Talent Share program cannot meet a staffing need, extensions of casual temporary staff actively working will be considered.
    • Submit casual temporary requests to Joanna Kong.
    • Submit student extension requests to Susana Gilardi.
HRSTM will evaluate these requests to determine if they can be met through the Talent Share program.
  • New staffing needs must be submitted into Talent Share. If an employee is identified as a match and is qualified, they are required to accept the temporary assignment.
  • New temporary staffing needs that cannot be fulfilled through the Talent Share program will be referred to our vendor, CMT. Departments will work directly with CMT to request temporary staffing to be paid through contracted services.

MC Masks Coming Soon!

Look for two MC masks to arrive in your mail this week. As part of continued efforts to keep our employees safe, we have mailed Montgomery College masks for your use now and for when you return to work on campus. The Centers for Disease Control recommends that people wear masks in public settings and when around people who don’t live in your household, especially when other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain. #mcmask #mcstrong
