From Instructional Lab Coordinator to OIT: A Successful Talent Match
Christin Slaughter, an instructional lab coordinator at the Germantown Campus, could no longer work her previous amount of hours due to the College’s move to remote teaching. As a result, her hours were significantly reduced.
Joe Marshall, information technology manager, was looking for someone who could become familiar with the various functional elements of Office 365 to help determine the best way to incorporate them in the College’s new remote environment.
Christin and Joe were the first match of the Talent Share Program. Here’s their experience:
| |
“At first, I was concerned with being assigned to IT. I do not even have a social media account and do not consider myself a tech person. I think learning the Office 365 applications that the College uses has been a great experience and I was able to give my feedback from the Academic side into the IT department. I’ve sort of been surprised by it, it has been a worthwhile experience for sure!”

“Thanks to Christy and thanks for the program, as Talent Share was very helpful to us.”

Sign Up for Contactless Curbside Pickup of Your Office Chair
As our extended remote work has required that we continue to adapt our homes into an office environment, we are often sitting and staring at a monitor for extended periods of time. Many employees are missing the comfort of their office chairs and have expressed interest in bringing these chairs to their home offices. Employee Required Training: An Overview of Data Security Training
Last fall, Montgomery College partnered with SANS Security Awareness, a leader in security awareness training, to offer relevant online training for all employees.
DataSecurity@MC: Annual Review will teach employees how to better identify common methods used by cyber attackers who try and gain access to account credentials and information systems. This training also provides tips and techniques to help detect and defend against these threats.
Employees can test their existing cyber knowledge by taking the precheck quiz. In the precheck, each training topic will ask three questions. If all precheck questions are answered correctly, the training is complete. If any questions are missed during the precheck, a personalized training assessment will be developed.
This training is required for all faculty and staff and is available through MC Learns. Thank you for taking our security to the next level and continuing to protect the data of students, faculty, and staff.
For any technology-related questions or issues, please contact the IT Service Desk or visit the web chat on OIT's web page.
