Check Out the MC Employee Return to Campus and Worksite Survey Report Summary

The Office of Human Resources and StrategicTalent Management (HRSTM), in partnership with, the Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness (OIRE), surveyed employees during the month of July to gauge sentiments around returning to work on-site and concerns about the eventual reopening of the College’s campuses and worksites. A total of 2,265 employees participated in the survey, which is approximately 92 percent of the College’s workforce. Employees who completed the survey were asked to provide feedback as to where more communication, training, and/or support is needed to keep employees engaged while working remotely and to feel safe in the workplace when returning on-site. View the report and analysis provided by OIRE.

Beware of Unemployment Fraud Targeting Maryland State Retirement System

Recently, some community colleges in Maryland have uncovered that fraudulent claims have been filed on behalf of full-time employees without their knowledge. These are employees who are actively employed and on their institution's payroll. A suspected factor in these cases is that the employees have shared data or made online inquiries with the Maryland State Retirement and Pension System (MSRPS). The Office of Human Resources and Strategic Talent Management (HRSTM) is closely monitoring Montgomery College’s unemployment filings.
A recent bulletin from the state advises that MSRPS does not initiate contact with members, retirees, or beneficiaries by email, text message, or social media channels. Even an unsolicited telephone call from someone claiming to be an employee of MSRPS should be met with caution. In most cases, if there is a question about your account or benefit payment, MSRPS will first contact you in writing at your home address via the US Postal Service. And, MSRPS will not:
  • Call, text, or email to demand immediate payment of some amount that you allegedly owe, or threaten to involve law enforcement if you don’t pay.
  • Require that you make a repayment of an owed amount by prepaid debit cards, gift cards, wire transfer or by asking for your bank account information.
  • Call, text, or email to ask for any of your personally identifiable information, such as your Social Security number.
If you receive a suspicious email, text message, or unsolicited phone call from someone claiming to be a representative from MRSPS, please immediately call 410-625-5586 and notify the HRSTM Benefits Team.
