College Closes for First Observance of Juneteenth as a Federal Holiday
On June 17, President Biden approved the vote by the U.S. Congress to declare Juneteenth as a federal holiday, naming June 18 as the first observance of Juneteenth National Independence Day. Dr. Pollard closed the College last Friday for this first observance of the Juneteenth federal holiday. Juneteenth marks the day of June 19, 1865, when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to ensure that people still being held in slavery were freed. This came a full two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had freed people held in slavery. See Dr. Pollard’s memo.
For timesheet guidance for the Juneteenth holiday, see the memo.

Board of Trustees Recognizes All College Employees with One-Time, Lump-Sum Award
Although salary increases have not been awarded for FY22, the Board of Trustees wanted to recognize Montgomery College employees for their continued dedication to providing excellent service to our students and our community. At its June 21 meeting, the Board of Trustees unanimously approved a resolution to provide all College employees a one-time, lump-sum award. This is not only in recognition of our regular benefits-eligible employees, but also our part-time faculty, casual temporary employees, and student aides who have been significantly impacted in the loss of assignments as well as our long-standing contingent workers who have recurring semester or seasonal assignments. These one-time, lump-sum awards will be included in paychecks scheduled for July 2, 2021. See Dr. Pollard’s memo.

Beginning July 1, Face Coverings Not Required on College Campuses and Sites
Beginning on July 1, people on MC campuses and worksites will not be required to wear face coverings indoors or outdoors. This change was the result of careful consideration by the MC Return-to-Campuses Coronavirus Advisory Team, in keeping with the greatly improved metrics in the County. This does not mean that face coverings are prohibited. Anyone is free to wear a face covering in any of our facilities, and it is encouraged in spaces where social distancing is not feasible. See Dr. Pollard’s memo.

Talent Share Program to End As Employees Return to Campus
As employees return to campus and onsite work, the Office of Human Resources and Strategic Talent Management (HRSTM) will be sunsetting the Talent Share program as it currently exists. HRSTM will take this opportunity to re-imagine how the program can benefit the College and employees while supporting College initiatives and aligning with the strategic workforce planning efforts. We appreciate everyone’s support of the program and especially those who participated. HRSTM will communicate and work with employee and supervisor participants in the program to ensure a smooth transition for returning to campus. Additional information will be shared as it becomes available. For questions about the transition, please contact HRSTM.
