Students Share Feedback at Opening Meeting

The Fall 2022 Opening Meeting was held this past Monday, August 22, kicking off Professional Week and the official start of the academic year. The program theme was “Enhancing Equitable Student Experiences,” and featured a panel of five students who shared feedback about their Montgomery College experiences in a discussion with MC President Jermaine F. Williams.
If you were unable to attend the meeting in person or watch the livestream, you can view the meeting on YouTube or the opening meeting website. Hear Dr. Williams’ welcome and remarks, trends in higher education, and updates on institutional goals, and his discussion about the MC experience with the student panel.

ELITE Events Begin Tomorrow, August 25

Fall 2022 Professional Week kicked off Monday, August 22, with the Collegewide Opening Meeting. The College and the Office of E-Learning, Innovation, and Teaching Excellence (ELITE) are offering faculty and staff a variety of professional development opportunities throughout this week.

All ELITE-sponsored events are scheduled on Thursday, August 25, and held via Zoom. Some of the Professional Week presentations will be recorded for viewing. To see all available recordings, visit the Professional Week page on the Hub.

Sabbatical Leave Information Session Offered August 26

Full-time faculty, did you know that Montgomery College offers sabbatical leave? This program allows full-time faculty the opportunity to engage in various types of professional development endeavors for a period of one semester at full pay or one full academic year at half-pay. All full-time faculty who have completed a minimum of 14 consecutive semesters of service are eligible.
Learn more about applying for sabbatical leave at the Sabbatical Leave Information Session webinar on Friday, August 26, 2–3:30 p.m. The session will be delivered via Zoom. During this session, you will learn about the process, hear tips on completing your application, and hear from a recent program alumni.

Reminder of Mask Policy, Vaccination Requirements for Fall Semester

With the fall semester beginning next Monday, August 29, the College will continue to require masks in all classroom settings, including laboratories, learning centers, and other instructional spaces. Masks are optional for students, faculty, staff, contractors, vendors, and visitors inside College buildings and facilities—unless in one of the classroom settings listed above. Masks will continue to be required in the Center for Early Education and on the MC Shuttles. See “Things to know:”
Students attending face-to-face classes or using on-campus student support services this fall should be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or request a medical or religious exception. Unvaccinated persons are asked to wear a mask at all times while in MC buildings. Read more.

President’s Inauguration to Be Held October 19

The inauguration of Dr. Jermaine F. Williams, 11th president of the College will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 1 p.m., at The Music Center at Strathmore. Inauguration festivities kick off October 10 with events on each campus. For more information, visit the inauguration website.

Reminder: Rental Regalia Order Form Due by September 12, 2022

Download the rental regalia order form and return the completed form to any of the three MC Campus Stores with payment in full no later than September 12.

Kaiser Permanente Opens New Centers

Kaiser Permanente is opening several new centers this fall, with more on the way. The West Hyattsville Medical Center is now open. This new, 48,000 square foot state-of-the-art medical center replaces the former Prince George’s County Medical Center and provides primary care, pharmacy, laboratory, and radiology/imaging services to the growing area.
Caton Hill will be opening soon and replacing the former Woodbridge Medical Center, as well as the new Springfield Center. Read more.
