Employee Spotlight: Meet Vanessa Zambrano
Vanessa Zambrano was born in D.C. to Venezuelan parents and grew up in Caracas, Venezuela. After living in Miami, Austin, and Chicago, she came back to Montgomery County in 2016 and has been working for the Office of Communications at Montgomery College as the strategic content producer for almost five and a half years. During her time here, Vanessa has supported our media relations efforts, led our outreach to Spanish-language media, and led the Language Advisory Group, which aims to remove barriers for speakers of languages other than English to study and work at Montgomery College.
Currently, Vanessa serves as one of the Office of Advancement and Community Engagement (OACE) liaisons to the President's Advisory Committee on Equity and Inclusion (PACEI) and as a member of the Hispanic Serving Institution (HIS) Task Force. You may also find her taking photos at events, posting and promoting on social media, or working with MCTV.
Vanessa “loves the people she works with and there is a two-way street when it comes to supporting each other, both in communications and in the College as a whole, which has turned every challenge into a success.” Vanessa is big on personal connections and her favorite thing about MC is the people. MC is a unique community where she’s made friends and sustained good relationships with colleagues in her team and across several departments and campuses.
In her free time, Vanessa enjoys hiking, dancing, cooking, going to the theatre or to museums, and spending time with her husband and two kids.

March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness MonthAccording to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), colorectal cancers are the fourth-leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the U.S. By 2030, colorectal cancer is expected to become the leading cause of cancer-related deaths among individuals under the age of 50.
With colorectal cancer on the rise among younger individuals, the American Cancer Society lowered the screening age for colorectal cancer from 50 to 45 years old. Colorectal cancer can be prevented at any age with early screening.
One in three individuals is not up-to-date with colorectal cancer screening, per the CDC, but affordable, at-home screening options are available. Consult your healthcare provider if you need to be screened or have any symptoms. Encourage your family and friends to be screened and read the most recent facts and statistics about colorectal cancer.
