Employee Spotlight: Meet Persis JohnsonPersis Johnson began her career as an academic advisor at Frederick Community College (FCC) before joining MC in 2019. After a few years, she was promoted to assistant director of multicultural student services. Most of her professional experience has been centered on student success and advocacy.
Before FCC, Persis worked in various positions at Fairmont State University, focusing on first-year student programming, including Welcome Weekend and Family Weekend. One of her proudest moments thus far was creating a two-week residential STEM summer camp for African American students at Fairmont State. She feels her experience prepared her to take on MC's new Middle College program coordinator role and, after three years, accepted the position as Dual Enrollment manager, where she will use her unique skills to assist in the success of the fast-growing DE programs.
Persis’ favorite part of working at MC is the opportunity to work at an institution that values student success and provides opportunities for all. Nothing can compare to her favorite parts of life: her husband, Stephan, and their son, Landon.

Educational Assistance Program Updates
Educational Assistance Program (EAP) utilization numbers as of March 31, 2023, are updated on the Office of Human Resources and Strategic Talent Management (HRSTM) website. Please visit the EAP webpage for the most recent utilization rates, as some groups are getting close to spending the allotted amount for the entire 2023 fiscal year. Remember, once your group runs out of money, there are no funds available for use anymore. Please plan accordingly.
- Per P&P 35001 Compensation Programs, you have 30 days to submit your reimbursement request (expense report) after returning from EAP travel, even if you submitted your spend authorization months earlier. HRSTM will refund the unclaimed amounts back to the EAP budget if they are not submitted in a timely manner. Cancel any Workday spend authorizations that are no longer needed for EAP travel as soon as possible.
- The first quarter of EAP taxable income was processed on the 4/7/2023 paycheck for Wellness requests. This includes all requests submitted in Workday between January and March 2023. Taxable tuition benefits, including any processed between January and March 2023 over the IRS $5,250.00 tax-free maximum, will be processed on the 4/7/2023 and 4/21/2023 paychecks.
- Please review your incomplete spend authorizations, expense reports, requisitions, and receipts in Workday on an ongoing basis. Cancel anything that you no longer need to use. This helps maintain the most accurate information in the system and ensures that as many eligible employees can participate as possible.
Please feel free to contact EAP Requests if you have any questions.

Sexual Assault Awareness Month: Promoting a Safe and Supportive Community at MC
As we enter Sexual Assault Awareness Month, it’s important to remember that sexual assault can happen to anyone, anywhere. At Montgomery College, we are committed to creating a culture of respect and consent and providing a safe and supportive environment for all members of our community.
Sexual assault is any type of forced or coerced sexual contact or behavior that happens without consent, including rape and attempted rape, child molestation, and sexual harassment or threats.
It is the policy of Montgomery College to establish and maintain an environment in which employees of MC can work or participate in College education programs and other programs free from sexual assault.
We believe in the importance of survivors being able to come forward with their experiences of sexual assault and harassment, and encourage all employees to report any incidents or concerns, which will be handled with sensitivity and care. Employees are encouraged to submit reports promptly in order to maximize the College’s ability to respond and take appropriate action, including obtaining evidence and conducting a prompt and equitable investigation.
